Sub-menus position

What do you think of the suggestion of having sub-menus open on the side instead of bellow the buttons? Like this This way you can navigate the buttons with your mouse simply by going to the next button instead of having to move to the side so that the sub-menu closes and lets you hover the other buttons it was hiding.

I'd love to, but like the pop-up menu for the notifications button I can't control where it shows up. It's hard coded in Steam, sadly.
