RFC: Annotating authorship inside files via Metadata

I was researching whether there is a standard for annotating regions in images. E.g.

Section: 0,0,16,32
Description: Bird
Author: Author1
License: CC0

Metadata can be embedded e.g. via EXIF or XMP into PNG images but I couldn't find an established standard that can be used to embed something like a HTML <map>.

Would be useful so the authorship survives and maybe for the editor to say "This part of the image is by XYZ". (currently most of our images are by one person but there are some exceptions). And its nice to have this machine readable.

Searched across the internet and already asked AI and the closest was that they told me that Adobe Photoshop supports this, here is the standard and the tags. But the tag is not even part of the standard. So typical AI made bs up response.

Yes I can easily come up with some custom XML namespace in XMP that can handle this but would prefer some standard for interop.

The MWG MWP standard for annotating faces looks suitable.

Has the advantage that all tools who can read this face annotation data will display it.
