External Subtitles break Hulu (ad-supported) plan

Black screen when playing to commercial ads insertion point. The external subtitles continue to play. The ad countdown ends, the video cannot be restored and continues to black screen. Manually reselecting the timeline restores it to normal. (But this seriously affect the viewing experience :S) This does not happen on Google Translate.We may have to find a way to block Hulu ads to avoid the problem. Maybe slicing the subtitles would also solve the problem? That might be more of a hassle than blocking ads.
