How can we be more inclusive for people who cannot afford gas fees

Open kempsterrrr opened this issue 4 years ago • 2 comments

Context There have been some instances of individuals reaching out requesting another way to join the community that doesn't require purchasing the genesis NFT as they cannot afford the gas fee's for the transaction. In certain cases they have freely offered to perform bounties or prove value in other ways in order to secure access.

Currently I don't believe we're in a position to address this challenge as we still need to define how we govern and recognise/reward contributions but I think it's an important point to make note of so we factor it into our thoughts in the future.

Potential solutions:

  • Bounties outsiders can pick up to gain access to the community (this could be NFTs or token)
  • An application program for pitching project/personal value into the community voted on by members

Great initiative!

Could supporting a multichain / 2nd layer approach be a solution to cost management?

I think a lot of people wouldn't mind saving costs on gas fees if at all possible :-) I'm not web3 savvy enough yet to say what's technically feasible though

@kempsterrrr I can add that into one of the way we spend the fund in gitcoin

@rasmuscnielsen Cool suggestion; however since the nft contract is already deployed on the main ethereum chain, it's harder to migrate to another layer. Also let's say it's on polygon, user would need to know how to bridge token between layers and add additional barriers on top of learning how to use metamask or what is gas. This is something to keep in mind when we deploy the derivatives contract
