Those lists that have are adjustable by the user I have marked as “No action needed.” This includes the various Search results and Browse by date, subject, author, and title. The other lists can’t be configured by the user so I think they should either be 1. set much higher per page, 2. have no limit at all, or 3. controlled as a setting.

I think that (3) is the only choice that will satisfy every site. Let any value less than 1 mean "no limit" and it can cover all three. it was really easy to make the initial sizes of the browse result lists configurable. - @mwoodiupui

So, as I understand it, there are two categories of lists under discussion: lists whose window size can be adjusted by the user, and those with a fixed window size. The latter are discussed above. I feel that the former should also have a configurable initial size (because I've been asked to make them shorter here). Example: #1771 .

While I'm throwing out ideas: should the adjustable-size windows have an initial size stored in the user's account? That is: user A hates scrolling and wants short windows, while user B hates paging through lists and wants long windows. Why shouldn't each be able to save that as a preference?

As this is simply a summary ticket, I'm going to just pull it over to an "unscheduled backlog". It's not actionable, but I do understand it's a useful resource to find tickets related to this configuration issue.
