comment from user regarding VDCs

Open ravinepal opened this issue 9 years ago • 5 comments

"2 VDCs in Syangja, Birgha Archale and Biruwa Archale have been swiped with each other."

"The names are swiped with each other. As per the map, the geographic area of Birgha Archale has been named Biruwa Archale and vice versa."

@ravinepal

I can switch these two in our geodata if the information we received via that post is correct. I will assume that it is and that you are comfortable with our making that switch. There are a couple of things to note.

  • Google Maps marks them the same way the Facebook poster marked them. See here.
  • Wazimap uses OpenStreetMap, and the underlying map from OpenStreetMap will continue to mark them incorrectly. Specifically, the OpenStreetMap has text in it that shows Biruwa Archale where the Facebook poster says Birgha Archale should be. See here and here. Even though a user of NepalMap will be taken to the right place when asking for Birgha Archale, the text on the map will be incorrect. I am not sure how to get OpenStreetMap updated.

easiest is just to go to www.openstreetmap.org , log in (you can use github for that), zoom to the right spot and click on "Edit" in the left corner You can edit the map directly in your browser

@individual-it

Thanks! That's good to know. I can make the change for NepalMap's data when and if @ravinepal or other members of the team feel that Facebook feedback is accurate and should be followed.

However, I don't know that part of Nepal well enough to be qualified to make the change in the underlying OpenStreetMap. I feel that that change should be done by someone with more knowledge of Syangja than I have.

Are you or someone you know familiar enough with Syangja to determine whether or not a change is valid and should be made and make the change?

@prashishh - would you mind posting this qs re Syangja's two VDCs and see if someone can corroborate this claim a user made? pls see this thread for details. cc @studenton
