Syntax highlighting in gitignore

Does this provide syntax highlighting? If not, any plans?

Would also be nice if the scope of application of the current line is explained in a pop-up.

It doesn't really seem to (comments are highlighted, but that seems to happen even without this extension).

Specifically, I'd like to see highlights for !, ?, * and **, since those have special meanings in .gitignore files.

I wonder what "Language support for .gitignore files." means then, if not syntax highlighting 🤔
