Issue with extended characters

I've just discovered your library, wish I had found it years ago. I'm so happy it exists.

One problem that I've been getting though is on putty. Using your examples, line characters aren't appearing properly.

I have tried the following to resolve.

• using different fonts in putty.
• having putty terminal-type set to xterm
• having putty terminal-type set to vt220
• having remote character-set set to UTF-8 ( default )
• having remote character-set set to various latin
• Updated putty and tried the new translation setting: enable VT100 line drawing even in UTF-8 mode

None of these have had any noticeable effect.
