Part's entity origin outside of map causes lighting to darken

Open mrwallace888 opened this issue 4 years ago • 2 comments

You know how things spawn in as effects and how the actual item is like floating above the "effect origin" or whatever? There's an issue I get where if I bring it down, because the "origin" of the effect is below the ground of the map, the item goes dark.

Is there a way to fix this?

In gmod today I think it's fixable but not without disrupting how parts are rendered I think. I might be able to do it on the refactor branch.

An interesting concept may be some kind of rendering option to light models from the same origin as their parent/'owner' - if that is even possible. ( Much like how lighting origin in Hammer editor - or how model files' own lighting origin is altered. Just not sure if something like that is possible in realtime. )

Could also solve the somewhat-similar case of how outfits with many parts suffer from ugly inconsistent lighting when - for instance - standing at the edge of a harsh change in brightness. ( Some parts receiving fully brightness, while others remain fully dark )
