Slab placing causes confusion.

I accidentally put one vertical slab somehow, yet afterwards no matter what I do I just can't put a vertical one. It confuses me.

I don't understand. I can't interact with interactable blocks with slabs in my hand because I would instead put a vertical slab. Yet when it comes to not interactable blocks I would place a vertical slab while placing a horizonal one with shift held.
