MD keys >> * for italic instead of _

Open dgoosens opened this issue 8 years ago • 10 comments

Love the MD keys in the mobile app.

But, I personally prefer to use a single * for italic...
not the underscore _

Would be nice to have an option to change this behavior

Hi @dgoosens , thanks for your trying and feedback! Since I usually use _ for italic, so I want feedback from other people.

Sure...
I understand that this is a personal preference

Nevertheless...
If this were editable in some kind of config file, we would, maybe, also be able to add our personal shortcuts to the list

I'd personally add / for instance

I also think that it is necessary to make the customizable key setting as you said.

How do you both feel about the ability to use either * or _ for both bold and italics? GitHub renders bold and italics using either symbol, and I've grown to love this syntax. I see this as being a good compromise for people who prefer the different symbols.

**Bold with asterisks** == Bold with asterisks __Bold with underscores__ == Bold with underscores *Italics with asterisks* == Italics with asterisks _Italics with underscores_ == Italics with underscores

good point from @robbawebba and probably the simplest solution as well !

I agree with @robbawebba

@kazup01 Do you know if the markdown parser supports this? Accepting either * or _ characters?

I think italic is not supported by the library we use for markdown preview. We plan to create our markdown preview library, so please wait.

FYI, markdown-it has a plugin that I was hoping would be incorporated into Boostnote at some point that underlines words with underscores. Just my 2 cents, but I've been using asterisks for bold & italic because I like having the extra functionality without having to write html tags.
