Stuttering crossfade on one of three device

Open EmEiBee opened this issue 2 months ago • 2 comments

Hello everyone,

I'm not quite sure where to post my problem. So please don't be mad if I'm in the wrong place...

I have three TC001 devices in operation. They all have the same firmware and display/receive (via MQTT) the same data.

This includes the time display (internal function), as well as external data such as the outside temperature and humidity, the ambient light level, the position of the thermostatic radiator valves, etc. Additionally, there are weather-related overlays and, in case of malfunctions (heating, smoke detectors, gas detectors, etc.), a continuous alarm message.

Two of the three TC001 devices have been working flawlessly for months. However, the third TC001 is experiencing a glitch. This manifests as a brief freeze when transitioning from one display to the next (usually at the same position; see image), and/or the dynamic pixels of a current display freeze for 1-3 seconds (falling raindrops, seconds displayed by a flashing colon, etc.).

I've reflashed the firmware several times now and tried a few other things, but I can't find a solution. Interestingly, after restarting the "sick" TC001, everything is fine for about 30 minutes. Only after this time does the stuttering eventually start...

At this point, I'm almost certain the ESP itself is faulty...

I would be very grateful for any helpful suggestions...

if it happens in 1 out of 3 cases with identical firmware, its more like an hardware issue. Due to the cheap hardware, this cannot be ruled out. I would recommend exchanging this Ulanzi.

Ah, okay... So I was on the right track with the hardware problem.

I'll get a replacement, but at the same time, I'll figure out how to open it without damaging it. I don't like throwing things away if they can be repaired somehow.

Thanks for the tip and for confirming my suspicion...
