There are circumstances where is is more convenient to have a format consistent with an exact binary dt fraction. e.g

>>> 1./64 + 1./128
0.0234375

would be best with %.7f %d for spiketime, gid. No matter how large the spiketime gets it will always be exact and easy to compare with NEURON spike rasters (with the same format). Perhaps it would be good to have a user option that allows specification of this format.
