Strange rendering of text on ubuntu 16.04

Hi, firstly thank you for all your hard work, your pdf2image really saves a lot of time. Unfortunately I have recently had a lot of documents that render incorrectly to PNG.

This is how the pdf renders in Chrome and Acrobat Reader

This is how it renders using pdftoppm -r 200 -png

Not sure if this is related to pdf2image or a deeper issue. :-(

Any help would be appreciated.

This is probably a poppler issue. I don't have definitive answer, but I'd say this is most likely a bad font substitution.

You can run pdffonts your_file.pdf and see if all the listed fonts are available on your machine. You can also run pdftoppm -r 200 your_file.pdf out and see if you get a warning in the output that might be suppressed by pdf2image.
