Status v1 and why isn't v2 in public WordPress plugin directory

Hi guys,

We're using v1 on a multisite network which will be used as a knowledge base. This plugin is kind of the backbone of our setup and we were wondering when the bugs in v1 will be fixed? More particularly this one: https://github.com/Automattic/syndication/issues/143 and/or will v1 get more Automattic support in the future? Because right now the plugin feels kind of abandoned.

We'll be looking in to using v2 in the meantime, because it looks like it's kind of heavily used on WordPress VIP sites, but why isn't v2 in the WordPress public plugin directory? If we'd use it on our production sites, how will be get updates for it? We'll need to watch this GitHub repo for changes and releases?
