PR: Steel elements / elements with structural connections gone from IFC using version 2025.4.3

Open COWImgbj opened this issue 8 months ago • 5 comments

Problem Description

Hello, It seems that with the new IFC-exporter 2025.4.3 that the include steel elements function in the exporter no longer works. When it is checked, both the structural connections and the elements connected to them not exported. When it is unchecked, the structural connections are not exported, but the elements connected to them are. This is both when compared to Revit 2024.3.20 and 2025.4.0.

Hello @COWImgbj,

Thank you for the detailed report and for providing the clear images. Your explanation of the issue is very helpful.

To help us investigate this issue and identify the root cause, we kindly ask for a bit more information:

  1. Revit Model: Could you please provide a sample Revit model (.rvt) that exhibits this behavior? A stripped-down version containing just the relevant elements would be ideal.
  2. Reproduction Steps: Please provide a simple, step-by-step list of instructions to reproduce the issue.

A sample file and clear steps are crucial for us to quickly and accurately reproduce the problem on our end. This will significantly speed up the investigation and help us develop a fix.

Thank you for your cooperation and your contribution to improving the IFC exporter!

Hello @ArtemHnatko , Do you have an email or a secure place I can upload the stripped-downed Revit file?

Hello @COWImgbj,

For security reasons and to ensure all our communications are tracked, we cannot use email. However, you can use Autodesk Drive to securely share the file with me.

Please upload the file to the Autodesk Drive and then share the link with me on this ticket.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated, and this will help us move forward with the investigation.

Hello @ArtemHnatko, A cleanup Revit file can be found under https://autode.sk/3VvbHBb. .json file for IFC export settings used can be downloaded from https://autode.sk/47D7EtM.

The issue only happens for IFC exporter version 2025.4.3. I have only test IFC 2x3 CV 2.0. When "Include Steel elements" is checked, all Structural Framing and Columns connected to Structural Connections (turn into Steel Elements) are excluded from the IFC export.

Hello @COWImgbj,

Thank you for your detailed report and for providing the model and settings.

I've investigated the issue and can confirm that the behavior you described is a bug in the IFC exporter 25.4.3.0.

As a workaround, we recommend temporarily reverting to the IFC for Revit 25.4.0.27 add-in, which should allow you to correctly export steel elements. We are investigating this issue for a future fix in a coming release.

Thank you again for your help in identifying this issue!

Testing environment:

  • Autodesk Revit 2025 (IFC 25.4.0.27)
  • Autodesk Revit 2025 (IFC 25.4.3.0)
