Steel beams with different start and end level and structural connections are exported wrong

Open COWImgbj opened this issue 3 years ago • 16 comments

Using 22.5 IFC exporter (unsure if it was a problem with earlier version) it seems that the steel fabrication element generated when using steel connections does not have the correct end points when exported to IFC. It seems to be completely horizontal, and the end elevation the same as the start elevation.

We will look into this - do you have a simple sample file you can send to [email protected]?

@AngelVelezSosa This is still an issue in both 23.2.5 and 24.1.0. Is this something that can be fixed?

I'll try to get an update from the Steel Connections team.

I don't see a sample file, apologies if you had send one at the time. Could you re-send?

Got the file. thanks.

I don't see the elevation issue in 2024.1 using IFC 24.1.0.31, but I do see a gap between the beam and the end plate... image

@COWImgbj maybe I am missing something. Can you be super-specific?

The gap is just a modelling mistake in Revit. The beams are ok in Revit, but the beams are exported with the same Z coordinate in both ends even though the start and end have different elevations. It seems like the "Start Level Offset" is used for both the start and end of them beam when it is connected to a structural connection and exported as IfcMember to Ifc (and not IfcBeam when it is not connected to a structural connection). image image image image

Sorry, I should have indicated that my images that I posted above show a newly exported IFC file, linked back into Revit and then with spot elevations on the beams. I do see the start and end being different, and the same as the originals. I am looking at 2024.1

I am getting the same result with horizontal beams in Solibri 9.13.2, Navisworks 2023 and Revit 2024. I am exporting using IFC2x3 CV 2.0 with "Include Steel Elements", "Export only elements visible in view" and "Use active view when creating geometry" turn on. Level of detail set to "Low". A user defined propetry set. No Revit or other IFC property sets. Everything else is turned off.

@parrela I am still getting errors when exporting the beams. See my previous post. They are exported as IfcMember. What are your export settings?
