Display bounding boxes on unloaded payloads

Open sharktacos opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

I'm trying to get bounding boxes to display for unloaded payloads using the extents hints attribute, following the example from the USD Cookbook.

This works as advertised in USDview. It does not work in Maya, and unloading a payload shows nothing in the viewport.

Describe the solution you'd like

Get bounding boxes to display for unloaded payloads using the extents hints attribute.

Describe alternatives you've considered

I would imagine that this might be something that would work in Hydra, but not in VP2. Of course, it would be nice if it worked in both. Currently, it appears to work in neither.

Additional context

Regarding Hydra, this issue may be related from OpenUSD: "Storm not drawing unloaded payload boxes #2720"

@sharktacos

Thanks for making the issue, in my opinion this feature would fall high on my list of things I'd like to see.

Cheers,

Hi Devs,

I wanted to poke back into this to see if this has gotten any more attention.

On my end being able to set up large collections of set/assets and have the option to unload any of the payloads but still get the bounding box or even setting the Draw mode to Texture cards and getting a light weight representation will optimize scenes greatly.

Is this still being considered?
