Locked out of authenticator after update to 6.3.4 and passphase was not set before

Describe the issue

I was using authenticator with no issues during the day but, suddenly, it begun asking me for a password with the message:

Enter password to decrypt account data.

As I had never configured a password for authenticator, I just tried <ENTER> and an whitespace to see if I could get in, with no luck.

I could get it working again with this procedure:

  1. Manually downloaded an older version (random, 6.3.0)
  2. Installed it
  3. With the steps above, authenticator worked, so I
  4. Set a password for it
  5. Updated the plugin
  6. Entered the password
  7. Now it works correctly.

Browser

Firefox

Browser Version

91.2.0esr

Extension Version

6.3.4

Same problem. :(

This was due to Mozilla revoking 6.x versions of the extension, causing a downgrade to an incompatible version. Update the extension by following the directions in #774

@mymindstorm perhaps I didn't explain my issue correctly: it was working ok and I never set up a password in authenticator.

It was auto-updated to 6.3.4 and, from there on, it kept asking me for a password to decrypt my data. As I had none set, it kept denying me access.

So I

  1. downgraded it manually to 6.3.0
  2. it let me in
  3. I set a password to encrypt my data
  4. upgraded it again to 6.3.4
  5. now, with a password set, 6.3.4 worked correctly.

Maybe I'm understanding something different, but as it was auto-upgraded to 6.3.4, it does not seem to be exactly the same issue as #774 ( (firefox's revokation of the extension), right?

The problem is that there are no 6.3.X versions on the Firefox Add-ons website. I can't download the version you indicate and the repository version is blocked by the browser. I had to download 5.3.2, which does appear in the add-ons.

ah, I see. I downloaded it from this repo (see here) and installed it from 'local file'. You can pick any other version, I guess. As long as you can get in, add a password to authenticator and re-upgrade.

I found a problem, in the version 5.3.2 i put a password and version 6.X no recognize. I try install 6.3.0 but no let me use password putted.
