My apologies, I'm new to this but I have a question. Is this serial bus CAN bus?

No, its just really slow serial.

Modbus? In the industry 76.8 is considered fast. When you state slow for that industry 115k is really fast

In reality it could be anything. If it was a true modbus then it would be rs485 and propper multi slave but its not. My unit has 2 remotes that are master/slave but then the head unit is added too. Its probaby some sort of proprietary mangled modbus but it still only uses one wire for tx and rx. Feel free to do your own investigations and report back.
