Installation procedure on ubuntu out of date

Open matthewtownson opened this issue 7 years ago • 4 comments

Using a clean install of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS found the following issues with the instructions

  • Uses apt not apt-get
  • No installation instructions for Python 3
  • Repo to clone refers to soapy/soapy
  • Pyfftw not listed in dependencies for apt-get instructions

This is very true, however I'm not quite sure what to do about to it, as I don't think its sustainable to give instructions for all the versions of the common distros/OSes/python distributions. An alternative would be to simple list the dependencies and make sure they were always accurate. It might also be time to make a pip-able install or a conda package.

Thoughts?

Making it installable via pip/conda/both sounds reasonable, then keeping a list of dependencies up-to-date is a much easier job.

I'm running into the same issues. Have tried installing with pip, pip3 and apt and no joy on all fronts on ubuntu 18.04 and 19.10. I think under 19.10 I did get it running far enough for the testSimulation.py test to complete succesfully but since i could not install PyQt5, I had no GUI.

Any recommended procedure on either OS?

Sorry for taking such a long time to get back to you on this, I would recommend the anaconda distribution of Python, it should be fairly easy to install PyQT from Conda to get the GUI working.
