Options to customize / improve most used
I personally don't use favorites, as I really like the ability Niagara has to place the ones I am likely to use the most on the screen. I could define favorites myself but I prefer to delegate that task. I enjoy the feeling of the launcher to do that for me. This is why I wish the most-used algorithm would better fit my needs - in my case, tailor it to also consider screen time and also consider when I open it via notification tray. A way to customize the most used formula via options would be amazing for me and I think for some other users as well - I have seen people on telegram stating most used is broken, until they realize they keep opening apps via notification and expected those apps to be marked as 'most used'.
That’s a tough one. If you would only access an app by opening its notification from the tray, it shouldn’t be suggested, because you probably wouldn’t tap on it below the favorites. But I get it, if you’re using an app often/for a long time, but you only sometimes open it from Niagara, it’s confusing that it doesn’t appear below your favorites. Sadly (or luckily, regarding privacy concerns), an app can’t detect if the user taps on a notification without having the permission to read the user’s usage data. Only asking the permission for that would be overkill in my opinion. However, measuring how long an app was used is easier. The difference between the time the user has left and got back to the launcher could be taken as an approximation (The user could switch apps without opening the launcher, which couldn’t be detected, but that’s rarely the case).
If any of my suggestions require extra permissions I completely agree to live on without them. Yes, in my case, screen time is more relevant. You see, I drive a lot (work away from home) so Waze and Deezer or Player FM (podcasts) are always launched, twice a day. But they keep disappearing from most used apps because I tap other apps to open far more often. But hey, judging from some translation strings, isn't a car/auto mode on your plans? 😊 Something like that would be just fine instead on most cases (although I do listen to some podcasts other than while driving).
